Pure Michigan Weekend

We had an amazing time "up north" this weekend. A special thank you to Aunt Mara and Uncle Ken for letting us take over their cottage for 4 days! We drove up to Interlochen on Thursday morning. We unpacked and let the kids explore. William was a great tour guide and showed Alex everything he needed to know. We went to Bud's for lunch and played a little mini golf in the afternoon. Then we started a campfire and roasted hot dogs and s'mores.

On Friday morning, we got the boys up early and drove up to Mackinac Island for the day. The kids loved the ferry ride (especially William). We wandered around for a while and stumbled upon the school playground. The boys played for a bit with the bridge in the background. Then we walked up to the Grand Hotel and had lunch on the grounds which was so enjoyable. The boys liked watching all the horses coming and going. We made our way back to town and took a horse and carriage ride around the island. Then we had some ice cream and took the ferry back to the main land. We spent a little time on the beach looking for fossils before heading back to the cottage.

On Saturday, we went to the Sleeping Bear Dunes. We did the Dune Climb (the first couple anyway) and then we did the scenic drive. It was so beautiful! After the dunes, we grabbed lunch in Glen Arbor and then hit the beach in Glen Haven. The beach was amazing - very clear and calm water. The boys played so nicely together for a few hours. Then we stopped at Moomer's for ice cream and ran into our friends Sarah and Tim from Grand Rapids. After ice cream, we started a camp fire and spent the evening relaxing outdoors.

On Sunday morning, we went down to the dock one last time before heading for Grand Rapids. Grandma and Grandpa watched the boys for us on Sunday night so we could go to the Katy Perry concert at Van Andel arena with some friends.

Day at the Beach

The boys and I decided to take a trip out to South Haven this morning. We packed up our bags and a picnic lunch and were on the road by 10am. We found a parking spot in town and walked along the channel to the beach. We dug a big hole, built a sand castle, jumped in the waves, walked down the pier to the lighthouse, jumped off the pier onto the sand, had a picnic lunch, played at the beach playground, saw a "pirate ship" heading out to the lake, and then got a McDonald's soft serve cone as a treat on the way home. It was a fun day!

Welcome, Little Emma!

This weekend, we had a trip planned to the Detroit area to visit Grann. We also wanted to see Aunt Maran and Uncle Josh's house and visit one more time before the baby came. But little Emma had a mind of her own! She was born on Tuesday so in addition to all our planned activities, we got to meet her as well! We spent some time visiting at their house and then took Allie back to Grann's to play for a bit and have dinner. On Sunday morning, we met up with Uncle Josh and Allie at the playground so the older cousins could play some more. We are looking forward to our next visit in a few weeks!
