It's hockey season! Will has been practicing for about a month now but Alex had his first practice this weekend. We also invited Will's team, and their families, over for a cookout on Sunday afternoon. It was fun to get to know the parents and the kids spent the entire time playing street hockey and football.
We decided to go to a Michigan road game in Madison this year. We left right after school on Friday and got to our hotel around 9pm. On Saturday morning, we drove to Julia and John's house and spent a little time there before heading to campus. We went to their Badger Blast at Union South -we saw Bucky, the band, the cheerleaders and the dance team. They also broadcast the game there for people that don't have tickets. Then we walked to Camp Randall for the game. Unfortunately, it was pretty brutal for Michigan but it was still a lot of fun to see all the traditions they have. After the game, we went back to the VanderMeers to get Violet. We hung out for a bit and then went back to campus so the kids could have ice cream on the terrace and the adults could have a beer. We started to walk around a bit but it started to rain so we decided to drive to a restaurant near their house. On Sunday morning, we all went out for breakfast before saying our goodbyes. It was a fun weekend!
The second grade class had "Blueberry Day" on Thursday. They all wore blue, learned about blueberries, did blueberry themed crafts, and had blueberry little bites for afternoon snack.
We went up to Grand Rapids on Saturday for Wizarding Weekends at the John Ball Zoo. They had fun Harry Potter displays set up throughout the zoo: hidden portkeys, magical creatures, a Quidditch field, activities, and decorations. Costumes were encouraged so Alex proudly wore his Harry Potter costume all day.
