We have been trying to make the most of our winter break staycation. It was so fun to have it extended by a day due to snow! The boys spent about 6 hours playing outside in the snow on Thursday. On Friday, we went to see Kung Fu Panda 3 with a few friends. They boys seemed to like it even though there were a few scary parts. On Friday night, Kim and I took William and Parker up to KVCC to go swimming. They were in the pool for about an hour and a half. William was still able to swim under water so we should be able to jump right into swim lessons this year. On Saturday, we spent several hours downtown at Climb Kalamazoo (separate post) and then went to the WMU hockey game Saturday night. We exchanged out ticket vouchers we had purchased at the beginning of the season and ended up with first row seats right next to the visitor's bench. It was a lot of fun to be right on the glass. William even got a puck from one of the refs! On Sunday, we went to Will's last hockey practice. His last game is next Saturday. It was kind of sad - we will miss our weekend mornings at Wings West. Then we went for a family walk around the neighborhood. William was the leader and he took us on a 2-3 mile walk. Now we are going to settle in to watch the Michigan basketball game. The boys still have one more day off school. I wonder what we'll do...
We took the boys to Climb Kalamazoo on Saturday to try out indoor rock climbing. Phil had to take a 30 minute safety lesson to learn how to Belay and then they were off! William was a little hesitant on his first attempt. Alex was actually the first of the boys to make it to the top! We spent several hour hours climbing - taking a break for lunch and a trip into Gazelle Sports. They boys climbed four of the indoor walls (28 more to try!)- including one that was completely vertical. They did a great job.
Happy Snow Day! The boys were out by 9:30 playing and then got invited to "the other cul-de-sac" to build snow forts. It is so nice that the temperature is actually warm enough to play outside and enjoy all the snow!
On Sunday, we celebrated Valentine's Day at the Red Wings game. We left mid morning and stopped in Ann Arbor for lunch at Mongolian BBQ. Then we drove to Greektown and took the people mover to Joe Lewis Arena. The boys really enjoyed the game. William was on the edge of his seat. Alex took a quick nap but rallied for the third period. It was an exciting game - the Red Wings won 6-5.
On Saturday, we went to the CHUM carnival at school. The kids had a lot of fun playing games and winning trinkets. The best prize... two goldfish! The boys named their fish Goldie (William) and Zuma (Alex). After a day, the bowl was cloudy so we upgraded their habitat to a tank with a filter. The boys love feeding them.
