Traverse City

While Alex was at Blue Lake and Will was counseling at Wakeshma, Phil and I went to Traverse City for a few nights.  We stayed at the Grand Traverse Resort and had a great room on the 15th floor overlooking the bay.  We did a lot of walking, shopping, and went to some of our favorite restaurants.  We also went to Sutton’s Bay and Leland.  It was a great trip!

Blue Lake Drop Off

We dropped Alex off at Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp for 12 days of music and fun.  He is on the main campus this year (grades 9-12) and is in a cabin with his friend Parker.  They are going to have a great time.

Alex’s First Time Behind the Wheel

Alex starts drivers training in October so we decided he should start practicing a little bit in the church parking lot near our house.   It was a good first outing!

Marching Band Fittings

Alex had marching band fittings tonight.  It was fun to see him in his uniform!  Band rehearsals start the first week of
August.

Portage Father’s Day Classic Champions

The Muskies played in the Portage Father's Day Classic at West Portage Little League this weekend.  They won the tournament last year, so they had high hopes of breaking their runners-up streak (5 tournaments in a row!).  The went 1-1 on Saturday but advanced to a semifinal game on Sunday.  The won their semifinal and then beat the Growlers in the championship.  It was a great way to finish the season.  It was also Alex's last game as a Muskie because he decided he doesn't want to play summer baseball next year since it would start in June and go through the end of July.  He is still undecided about playing high school, but there is a very good chance that was his last ever baseball game.  If so, it was a great way to end his baseball career.

Oriole Park at Camden Yards - Stadium #19

On Sunday, we drove to Baltimore to see a game at Oriole Park. It is one of our favorite stadiums so far.  The ambiance was great, the field was beautiful, and there were so many delicious food options.  Unfortunately, the Orioles lost 2-5.

Nationals Park - Stadium #18

We went to see a Nationals game and checked off stadium #18.  Nationals Park was not our favorite. Both the exterior and interior were pretty plain.  It was a very hot day but we lucked out that our seats were in the shade.  The one main positive was the public transportation to and from the game.  Also, Washington won 8-3.  In general, we had a great experience with the Metro while in DC.
