Today we were invited by the Grindalls to go check out Bair Lake camp which is South of Kalamazoo. They were having an open house with a lot of the camp activities open for the kids to enjoy. We had lunch in their new lodge/dining hall. Then the kids played in the game room, tried shooting BB guns at targets, rode in canoes, swam at the beach, rode paddle boards with the dads, had ice cream, William climbed "The Stand" and finally wrapped up with the zip line. It was a fun afternoon! Then we all went to Fletcher's for dinner on the patio. Not a bad start to the long weekend!

Golden Glove
What an exciting day for William! He had a great night at baseball and won the team's Golden Glove award for the night. He had two great plays when he was in the pitcher position. First, he caught a fly ball for an out... the first of the season for anyone on the team. Then, he picked up a ground ball and ran to home plate to get an out. He was so excited to win the award. He also got a hit at all of his at bats. He gets to keep the Golden Glove until their next game on Wednesday.
Such a great, supportive team! |
That is one happy boy! |
Accelerated Reader Ceremony
At William's school, they have a program called "Accelerated Reader." As the kids read books during the school year, they go into the computer lab (either before or after school with a parent or sometimes during the day in class) to take comprehension quizzes. The books are assigned a point value - anywhere from 0.5 points to 5 points. Most of Will's books were 0.5 points or 1 point. Each grade level has a different scale for bronze, silver, and gold medals. William reached "gold" status back in January but continued to take quizzes. Today was the award ceremony. It took place during their lunch period. The students were called up on stage and were given their awards. We're very proud of our little reader!

Cute Little Ball Players
We got the boys official team photos back this week. They turned out great! We've reached the halfway point of the season - in tball, they are now attempting coach pitch. If the kids are unable to hit the ball after three attempts they can hit off the tee. Alex hit the ball both times he was at bat and was very excited that he "hit it to the fence."

Jungle Joe's Fun
Alex had a great time at his CHUM Preschool end of year party at Jungle Joe's. His classmates all met in the morning and bounced for an hour and a half. Then we were joined by the afternoon class for a pizza party! Alex will definitely miss some of his CHUM friends.

Sunday morning was the big event! Kim and I ventured down to Quicken Arena at 6am to get ready for the race. At 6:45, we ventured down to our corral and waited for the race to start. The weather was less than stellar - around 38 degrees, 20+ mph winds, hail, rain, and even snow. The boys came out to cheer us on at the 4 mile mark, but then the weather turned even nastier (if you can believe it) and they decided to go to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. We had rough weather for the first 16 miles but then the sun came out for a while. We were able to keep up a pretty good pace (14 minute 40 second miles) for the duration. We finished just under 6.5 hours. The boys were there to cheer us on at the finish line.
Let's Do This! |
There they are! |
I guess several people took pictures of the boys along the route. |
