Tonight was the 3rd Grade Music Performance at Moorsbridge. All four third grade classes have been practicing all year in their music classes. In December, they started practicing all together on the stage in the cafeteria. The performance included speaking parts (everyone had an individual line they had to say), instrumental parts (everyone played an instrument for one song) and a lot of songs about the native people of Michigan (to tie in with their social studies curriculum). It was pretty impressive how it all came together! The first video was from the school assembly last Thursday. They had a "dress rehearsal" where they performed for the entire school to get ready for the evening show. The second video shows Will on the drums. They other students learned a native American dance to perform while Will's group drummed.

Hockey Weekend
It was a weekend full of hockey. On Saturday morning, the boys both had practice at Wings West. Then we grabbed a quick lunch before driving up to Grand Rapids so Will could play two games at the Van Andel Jamboree. There were teams from all over Michigan there. Will's team played a group from Grand Rapids and another from Muskegon and won both games! Grandma and Grandpa and Aunt Mara and Uncle Ken both came to cheer him on. After the games, we spent a couple hours and Grandma and Grandpa's before heading back downtown for the Griffins' game. We had seats with other KOHA families so the boys were able to sit together. It was an exciting game. The Griffins ended up winning 4-2. On Sunday morning, both boys had games. Alex was excited because he got to play goalie again.

Alex's Birthday Party
We wrapped up Alex's birthday celebration with his party at The Great Skate yesterday afternoon. We invited all his classmates and some neighborhood friends. We had 24 kids in attendance plus a couple older siblings. Most of the parents stayed and some even skated! We had a "Peanuts" theme and Alex and his buddies had a great time skating around, doing the limbo, and the chicken dance. We had quite a few "first timers" out there but everyone was smiling (despite a few falls). The kids were too busy skating to take the time to open presents. So Alex was able to do that when we got home. He received a lot of really nice gifts: Legos, nerf guns, gift cards, a shark snuggie, a U of M pillow pet, and Star Wars figures. He is a lucky boy!

Fancy Nancy Day
It was "Fancy Nancy" day in Kindergarten. All the kids were supposed to wear their fanciest clothes to school. All four teachers dressed up as well. They read several Fancy Nancy stories and enjoyed parfaits (ice cream sundaes) in the afternoon.

More Birthday Fun
The birthday fun keeps rolling along for Alex. Grann came into town for a quick visit on Saturday and brought along Alex's present: NHL hockey team logo stickers. We had fun putting the stickers up around his room. They compliment the baseball pennants in Will's room quite nicely.
Since we were on break for his actual birthday, Alex got to celebrate with his classmates on Tuesday of this week. He requested donuts for his birthday treat so we had to make a run before school. I was able to pop over between groups to help him pass out his treat. He was so excited!
Alex absolutely loves his birthday tent. William thought it was pretty cool as well and we were able to make him a set of Detroit Tigers curtains for his lower bunk. They are hung on curtain wire that is mounted under the top bunk. Our kids are pretty funny!

Outdoor Hockey
We had practice at Wings Arena on Sunday which gave the boys a lot of space to use their roller-skate guards. One of Alex's teammates invited the boys to play hockey on the outdoor rink in their backyard. Alex's friend has an older brother in 8U so Will was invited, too. The boys skated outside for almost two hours! Alex also brought home some great schoolwork this week.

Red Wings Game
For Christmas, we gave the boys (and us) tickets to a Red Wings game. William had them on his Christmas list and it was what he said he wanted most! We left mid afternoon on Wednesday to drive to Detroit. We got there with plenty of time to explore the new venue before the game started. We all were very impressed! Our seats were in the first row of the upper deck and we had a great view of the ice and one of the nets. It was fun to see some of the incredible saves made by the goalies and to see how close some of the shots on goal really were. The Wings managed to pull off a win in overtime (6 second in to overtime!).
