Hockey in Ann Arbor

Will and I had a fun weekend in Ann Arbor for his hockey tournament.  Their first game was Friday night and ended in a 2-2 tie.  They had a very rough game Saturday morning.  We had a big break before their evening game so we went to campus to walk around and have lunch at Pizza House.  Will also tried to teach me how to play NHL on the play station (it did not go well).  Will has been playing really well the past few weeks and has had so many great shots without actually getting a goal.  We felt it was going to happen this weekend and he didn't disappoint.  He scored two goals in their Saturday night game.  Here is the link to the live stream of the game:  https://youtu.be/igeeHzXhf74  His goals are at the 17 minute mark and the 46:40 mark.  He was awarded game MVP by his coach and got to take home the championship belt for the night.  We were so proud of him!  He asked before the game if I would get him a Shamrock Shake if he scored a goal.  We had to stop at two McDonalds but we made it happen.

 

Hockey Weekend

We had a busy hockey weekend.  On Friday night, Will played a game in Hudsonville which they unfortunately lost.  Alex had practice Saturday morning and Will had a game in Grand Rapids which they won.  After the game, Phil and Will grabbed lunch and visited Grandma for a bit.  Will discovered Grandpa's skeleton mask - spooky!  On Sunday, Alex had games in the morning followed by baseball practice.  Will had a game at the Event Center.  Although the KWings didn't win, Will had a great game.  He was aggressive, made opportunities for himself, and had a lot of shots on goal.  Here is the link to the live stream of his game:  https://youtu.be/tGsVi5-V4fU

Alex's BYR Fun

 Alex's hockey coach has a back yard rink and invited the team over to skate tonight.  Alex was excited to have his own BYR fun.  We found out that Will logged 35 hours on his coaches rink this year!  

Snow Day!

 We got the call last night that we had a snow day today.  We definitely got a lot of snow but the sun was out and we were able to enjoy the day.  Winger loves the snow - it is so fun to watch him leap through the snow drifts and chase the boys.  It wears him out!

Valentine's Day for the Morning Crew

Since the boys weren't able to exchange valentines or make their valentine boxes this year, the "Moms of Room 5" decided to have a mini party for our kids this morning before school.  We had hot chocolate, mini donuts, and cookies.  It was a lot of fun!

Outdoor Gym

Since our gym is being used to expand our cafeteria to keep kids spaced out at lunch, our gym teacher has conducted outdoor gym all year.  He has only been inside a few times when there were thunderstorms.  Then gym is in the classroom and involves stretching, jumping jacks, etc.   The kids play basketball, tag with pool noodles (to keep them distanced), run through obstacle courses, play soccer, etc.  Since we have quite a bit of snow on the ground, the kids got to go sledding this week.  He is such a trooper to stand out in the cold every day!

Weekend Fun

We had a weekend of new experiences.  On Friday night, we reserved an outdoor pod at Cove.  They had sliding glass doors over looking the lake and space heaters to keep you warm.  Unfortunately, we chose the coldest and windiest night of the year.  We had to bundle up in blankets and use hand warmers and were still pretty cold.  But, the view and the food were great!  On Saturday, Will learned how to use the snow blower.  In the evening, we went to Escapology to celebrate a semester of excellent grades for both boys.  We did the Scooby Doo escape room which was a lot of fun... even though we didn't solve the mystery in time.  It was Alex's first time doing an escape room and he keeps talking about it.   

So Much BYR Hockey

Even though indoor practices have started up again, the boys (especially Will) are getting a lot of Back Yard Rink skating in.  KWings siblings were invited to play at one of the gatherings(night photos below) and Alex was so excited.  He wasn't intimidated by the big kids and held his own.
