Bair Lake Fun

We had a very fun day at Bair Lake's "Kick Off to Summer."  We got there right at 10am when it started so the boys could do the zip line before the wait was too long.   Then we went to archery and the climbing wall.  We also played mini golf, did The Stand, played human foosball and went down to the lakefront.  It was cool and windy so we didn't go out on the lake but it was still fun for the boys to be back at camp.

Vaccine #1 Done!

Will had his first dose of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine yesterday.  He didn't have any side effects.  He will get the second dose on June 15.

We Escaped!

On Friday night, Will used his birthday gift certificate to Escapology to take two of his hockey buddies and their moms to Escapology.  We had all tried an escape room a few months ago and did not escape so we wanted to try again.  We met up before at the Lester's house so the boys could swim.  Then we did the "Arizona Shootout" and actually escaped!  Afterwards, we went back to the Lester's for ice cream sundaes.

3rd Grade Science - Painted Lady Butterfly

Alex brought home a painted lady caterpillar in a small plastic cup a few weeks ago.  For science, he had to observe the caterpillar every day and watch it "J Hang," form a chrysalis, and finally emerge into a butterfly.  We were excited to come home to a butterfly on Sunday afternoon (although were disappointed we didn't get to see it emerge).  The butterfly has been drying its wings and has ventured down to its plate of fruit.  We will release it either later today or tomorrow.

Baseball Weekend

Both boys had baseball tournaments this weekend.  Alex was in Rockford and Will was in Galesburg.  On Saturday, Grandma and Aunt Mara came to watch Alex play.  Unfortunately, they saw a loss but Alex played really well.  He came in to pitch and struck out four kids and also made three outs in the field.  They played much better in their second two games and were actually leading for most of their third game.  It is nice to see progress!  Phil and Will made it up to see Alex's second game and then we went into Rockford for dinner at Ramona's Table.  The Wild went 2-1 and unfortunately lost the tie-breaker (runs allowed) that would advance them to the next round.  They did get their custom designed Championship jerseys for winning their tournament a few weeks ago.  The pinstripes look pretty cool!

Middle School Awards

In Will's graphics and design class, they built air skimmers and tested them in one of the hallways to see which one would travel the longest distance.  Will's skimmer was the winner for 6th grade.  He and Parker also teamed up in their bridge building club and won third place (they tested strength).

Happy Birthday Winger!

We celebrated Winger's first birthday today.  Although we don't know his exact birthday, the vet told us he was about 6 months old after we adopted him.  So we decided to make his birthday 6 months before his "Gotcha Day" of November 7.  We decorated his bowl area with streamers, managed to get a photo with a birthday hat after a lot of trial and error, game him a "pup cup" for a treat and let him open his presents.  He loves his new "What's Inside" tree stump with three little squeaky squirrels inside.

Staff Appreciation Week

We were very spoiled at work for Staff Appreciation Week.  The PTO has a staff appreciation week chair, but since she wasn't allowed in the building due to COVID, the art teacher and I (PTO co-presidents) helped with setting things up and restocking.  On Monday, we were treated to coffee and bagels as well as a gift card tree.  There was also a snack bar which was restocked daily.  On Tuesday, we had Thai food donated for lunch and on Wednesday we had burritos with chips and salsa.  There was a yogurt parfait bar set up Thursday morning, hanging baskets were delivered from Wedel's, and we had Crumbl Cookies as an afternoon treat.
