Early 13th Birthday Fun

Will requested tickets to a Red Wings game for his 13th birthday so we decided to go to a game over spring break.  We spent the day in Detroit.  Grann took Will to Somerset to pick out his birthday gift at the Shinola store.  He ended up with a beautiful watch.  Then we spent some time with Allie and Emma before heading downtown.  He also received another early gift: he was able to pick out a jersey at the Red Wings store.  We also got Alex a sweatshirt. We had great seats and the game was really fun.  Unfortunately, the Red Wings lost in overtime.

Weekend in TC

Instead of going south for spring break we decided to head north for the weekend.  After dropping Winger at Grandma’s house, we drove up to Traverse City.  We picked up lunch at Bay Breads and brought it back to the Park Place hotel which is right downtown.  The boys enjoyed the pool and then we went for a walk by the water.  Then we went to Hop Lot where we had reserved an igloo and made a stop at the property.  We wrapped up the day with dinner at Paesano’s and a stop at the arcade for pinball and skeeball.  On Saturday, we went out to breakfast and the boys did some more swimming.  Then we went to the tip of Old Mission Peninsula to walk the beach for a bit.  It was super windy so we walked on the trail and found a sheltered beach where we found a lot of Petoskey Stones.  We stopped and Jolly Pumpkin and then did some shopping in Traverse City.  After another round of swimming we had a late dinner at Mama Lu’s.  On Sunday, the boys swam again and we had lunch at J&S before heading home.

LCAHL Playoffs -KWings

This weekend was the Little Caesar's Amateur Hockey League Playoffs in Trenton. (The scene of the Broncos State Runner-Up performance in 2020 just before things shut down for COVID) This was a single elimination playoff so the pressure was on. We played Compuware in the forst game. We came from behind to tie things up and send the game to sudden death overtime which we won! So the KWings played a second game Saturday night in Dearborn against Macomb. The game was tied 4-4 and Will scored to make it 5-4. Then the Kwings scored again to make it 6-4. Macomb came back and scored two more goals including a last second shot. So we went to another sudden death overtime. We managed to score first to send us to the championship game on Sunday in Trenton. Unfortunately, we lost to a very talented team from Lansing. It was a tough loss but we are so proud of all of them! The boys were sad about the loss but even more upset the season was over. They even insisted on one more team meal because they didn't want things to end.

Final Hockey Weekend - Broncos

This was the final hockey weekend for the Broncos. They played in a tournament here in Kalamazoo. They won both of their games on Friday but lost their game Saturday morning. Their record was good enough to qualify them for the semi finals Saturday night. In between games, we had our end of season party in Burdicks. The kids had pizza and we gave the coaches their gifts from the team. Unfortunately, they lost their semi final game on Saturday night so they are done for the season. It was a great season. We were fortunate to be on a team with great coaches, kids, and families.
