WMU Shovel Crew

Alex's hockey team got to be part of the "Shovel Crew" at the Western Michigan hockey game tonight. They went out during stoppages and shoveled the "snow" off the ice. Phil, Will, and I went to the game as well. On Saturday, Will went to another WMU hockey game with a friend and ran into some Muskies teammates. Alex gets to shovel again for the Michigan vs WMU game in a few weeks.

Muskies Scrimmages

The Muskies had three shirt scrimmages at Wings West today.  They took head shots for the league program beforehand. It was fun to see Will in a Muskies jersey!

 

First Archery Tournament

Alex had his first archery tournament of the season in Grand Ledge today. They have only had one practice so he didn't do as well as he would have liked. But it is fun to have archery back!

Volunteering at the 8U Jamboree and Chili Challenge

KOHA hosted their 10th Annual 8U Jamboree and Chili Challenge at Wings West on Saturday.  They had 35 8U teams from around the state come to play in the tournament and needed all the older KOHA teams to volunteer.  I worked the registration table most of the day.  Will was on the ice in the morning with the Muskies for the Try Hockey For Free event that took place before the Jamboree.  Then he stuck around and helped sell hotdogs/hamburgers outside and also moved the boards between games for the zamboni.  Phil helped with the boards as well and also supervised Alex's team in the chili tent where they were serving chili to guests.  It was a fun day - they estimated around 1000 youth hockey players were on site!

 

Muskies Hockey - Congrats, Will!

Will found out tonight that he made the Portage Muskies High School hockey team.  We are so excited for him!  Here are some photos of their locker room at Wings West.  

 

Happy Halloween!

It was a beautiful night for Trick or Treating!  Alex went out with some school friends that also live in the neighborhood and Will went out with friends near South Portage Little League.  Phil and I stayed home to pass out candy - despite a lot of trick or treaters out in the neighborhood, not many ventured all the way down the block to our house.  

 

Fall Fun

We had a relatively quiet weekend. On Saturday, Will reffed a game at Wings West at 12:30 and Alex played in a game at Wings West at 1:30. Afterwards, we went to Schultz's to get pumpkin and go apple picking. On Sunday, we went for a nice long walk in Al Sabo, did some yard work, and carved our pumpkins in the evening.

 

Boo in the Soo 2024

Phil and Alex were in Sault Ste. Marie this weekend for Boo in the Soo. They left on Thursday evening and drove to Mackinaw City. Then they got up on Friday morning to drive the last hour for their 11am game. After their first game, they went into Sault Ste. Marie for lunch, visited the Tower of History, and watched a ship come in the Soo Locks. After their second game on Friday, they had a team dinner at the hotel. On Saturday morning, they got up and went exploring along the coast of Lake Superior. It was a rock hunter's dream! After their 1:45pm game, they went to a team dinner at Soo Brewing Company where they sat on the roof top deck and saw another ship go through the locks. They played their final game Sunday morning and then they stopped at Castle Rock and the bridge for some photos.  Alex scored his first goal of the season with a shot from the blue line.  I also included a fun time lapse video one of the other moms took.  Boo in the Soo is definitely one of our favorite tournaments!
