On Monday, Phil left for Chicago for a sales meeting. We started to get Will packed for Spain before he had Muskies summer hockey practice in the evening. On Tuesday, Grandma came down to take us out to lunch before Will left and we spent more time in the afternoon getting things packed/prepped. On Tuesday evening, Will had baseball practice, I had a KOHA board retreat, and Alex was invited to a sleepover. We set numerous alarms because Will needed to be at school by 4am to depart! On Wednesday afternoon, Alex had a summer hockey game. At his baseball practice on Thursday, the kids took on their dads. The boys pitched and tried to strike them out. Then Alex had his final baseball game of the season over the weekend. We went to the rock shop in Galesburg after the game on Saturday and also stopped for gelato on the way home (Will sent us a picture of his gelato from Spain). He pitched on Sunday morning (6 of the 7 innings) and the Muskies got the win. Alex was awarded the MVP of the game. We also made a couple trips to the pool this week.
The Muskies had a great weekend of baseball at the West Portage Father's Day Classic. They went 1-1 on Saturday which earned them a spot in the semi finals on Sunday. They played the Brooklyn Blue Devils and managed to win 4-3 after seven innings. Then they played the Hamilton Crush in the championship game (who they lost to in the Championship game in Muskegon a few weeks ago) and won 12-6. Alex pitched 6/7 innings against the Blue Devils and did great. He also did really well at the plate with several doubles, singles, and walks over the weekend. It was probably his best weekend of baseball ever.
This summer is going to look a little different since Will is going to be out of town so much. Will left for Camp Wakeshma for training right after his final exam. He got home Saturday afternoon. Alex was in Grand Rapids for baseball (he got a ride with a teammate) and Phil and I went to a surprise 50th birthday party. On Sunday, Will went back to camp to start his first week. He found out when he arrived that he had been promoted from Junior Counselor to a regular counselor and was in charge of his own cabin. Alex had a few appointments this week. We also went to Grand Rapids to visit Grandma and he had a sleepover. On Saturday, his hockey team had a party at Texas Drive Park.
Last day of 10th and 7th grade! Will is heading straight from school to Camp Wakeshma for training and Alex is going to Davenport University later this afternoon for baseball.
The PC Baseball teams had their banquet tonight. The booster club president spoke, we had a nice pasta dinner, and the coaches each gave a speech. The JV Blue baseball team finished the season 25-5 which was the best JV record in their league.
The Muskies played in a 12 team tournament in Muskegon this weekend. They finished pool play as the 6 seed which got them into the "upper" bracket for Sunday. They won two games which got them into the championship game. Unfortunately, they didn't get the win but were still pretty happy with their second place medals.
We had a fun Memorial Weekend. On Saturday morning, Will had a double header against Harper Creek. They won both their games with score of 4-0 and 13-0. After their games, Phil and Will went to Detroit for the Tigers' game. Alex played with friends in the neighborhood while I finished some planting in the afternoon. Then we ordered in dinner and watched a movie. On Sunday afternoon, we drove to St. Joe to walk the pier, walk around town, and have dinner at Silver Beach Pizza. On Monday, we did some yard work and relaxed.
Alex had his spring band concert tonight. The 7th grade band played two songs and then did one song combined with the 8th grade band. After the show, we made our traditional stop at Y'OPA.
When Alex wasn't shooting, they wxplored Louisville. They walked the pedestrian bridge across the river, explored Old Town, found a fun place for dinner, and went to Churchill Downs.
