Summer 2025 - Week 7

Will was back at Wakeshma this week but Alex enjoyed some time at home. It was a very hot week so he and his buddies enjoyed a lot of time on the slip and slide and playing with water balloons. His hockey team also helped split and stack firewood for a team fundraiser.

100 Years at Camp Wakeshma

After Coed 5, Will stayed at camp to volunteer for their 100th Anniversary event.  I ran down to camp after all the campers left to pick up all his laundry since it was going to be a quick turnaround for him before heading back on Sunday morning!

Summer 2025 - Week 6

Phil and I stayed at the Grand Traverse Resort while we were in Traverse City. We would start our day with coffee and a walk around the grounds. On Monday, we also walked along West Bay. Then we drove up to Suttons Bay and had lunch at 45th Parallel. We did some shopping and then spent some time at Hop Lot. We made a quick stop at the property before heading back into town. We walked to Traverse City Whiskey Company and then had dinner at Little Fleet. On Tuesday, we went for anoher walk around GTR and then through some of the neighborhoods in town. We had lunch at Folgarelli's Market and did some last minute shopping before heading back home.

Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp - Final Concert

We picked Alex up from Blue Lake this morning at got to attend the Camp Bernstein Band and Orchestra Final Concert. It was so impressive. The band played 10 songs that they learned in 10 days! After the concert, we went into the shop, walked through the student art show, and got ice cream before heading home. Alex said he had a lot of fun and learned a lot. He made a lot of friends in his cabin. They all played different instruments which was kind of neat: euphonium, trumpet, trombone, bass, violin, bassoon, and alto sax to name a few. It is nice to have him home!

Camp Wakeshma - Coed 4 (Christmas in July)

Will went back to Wakeshma after our trip to New York for Coed 4 which was Christmas in July. He was a JC this week and had his one week in the dish room (only 3-4 hours/day). All the counselors received stockings from the directors at the end of the week filled with candy and were taken out to lunch at a Mexican restaurant in Mattawan on Saturday after the campers all left.

Summer 2025 - Week 5

This week, we actually had Will home, but we dropped Alex off at Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp for 10 days. Will was able to attend Muskies summer hockey and played in two games on Wednesday night. He was also able to play in the Rebel's baseball tournament on Friday and Saturday. He missed the game on Sunday morning in Grand Rapids because he went back to Wakeshma. Phil and I left for Traverse City for two nights on Sunday as well. We stayed at the Grand Traverse Resort. On Sunday, we walked around Boardman Lake (4-mile trail) and then had lunch at Little Fleet. Then we did some shopping in Traverse before walking to the Commons. Then we checked into the hotel and relaxed for a bit before going to Boathouse for dinner. We got the best seat in the house (in our opinion) for the second year in a row. We had surf and turf for two and then enjoyed a somewhat smokey sunset.
