We hosted the Muskies hockey team and their parents (and some siblings) at our house on Saturday afternoon before their scrimmage against Byron Center. We made the best of it even though it was a little chilly. We had tables set up in the garage with a TV and space heaters and the solo stove going in the drive way. Food was set-up inside and people hung out indoors and on the porch. The boys ate outside and then spent a lot of time in the basement playing ping-pong, ministicks, etc. Then the boys went up to Wings Event Center to watch a former teammate that is on the D3 club team at MSU play the WMU Stallions. The Muskies won the scrimmage 2-1.
The Muskies had their first hockey game on Friday afternoon against Caledonia. After the game, the boys went straight to the Portage Central playoff game against Byron Center (including some of the PN players on the team). They ended up in the front row of the student section in their suits. They made the Portage Public Schools facebook/instagram page. You can see Will on the right near the beginning. He and a teammate also ran the giant "P" and "C" flags at the end of the video. Will has the "C" and is running in slow motion down the side line. What a fun memory to have!
The boys had a half day of school day so we were able to carve pumpkins in the afternoon. Then Alex went over to a friend's house in the neighborhood for pizza before heading out for trick-or-treating. Will went to the first PC playoff football game (they won!). Phil and I stayed home and handed out candy. It was a quiet night with only a little over 100 trick-or-treaters. We think the football game had something to do with that. I think we had our last visitor at 7:30pm.
Will was inducted into the Portage Central chapter of National Honor Society tonight. There were 275 eligible juniors and seniors that were invited to apply. 165 students started their applications and 55 were accepted. It is quite an accomplishment! The ceremony was held at the high school in the auditorium (which was also set up for the play "Alice by Heart"). Each returning senior introduced the new members and detailed why they are a good addition to NHS.
