8th Grade Band Trip to Chicago
The 8th grade band took their annual trip to Chicago today. They got to school at 6:30am and loaded the charter buses. Their first stop was the Hancock Building. They went up to the 94th floor and got to do the "Tilt" experience. Then they spent a little time on Michigan Avenue and had lunch at Aster Hall. After lunch, they went to the CIBC Theater and saw a matinee of Hamilton. Finally, they went to Connie's Pizza for an all you can eat pizza, salad, breadsticks, and cookies before heading home. It looks like they had a great day!

Archery State Tournament 2026
Alex had the archery state tournament in Lansing today. He shot both bullseye and 3D. It wasn't his best day. He shot a 259 for bullseye and a 240 for 3D. Portage Central Middle School did qualify for Nationals in May and Alex did make the roster for Nationals for both events so he is happy about that. Both Phil and Will volunteered as lane officials and we grabbed dinner before heading home.

MSBOA Festival
The Portage Central 8th Grade Band competed in the MSBOA Festival which took place at PCHS this year. They played three pieces and then participated in sight reading which is really fun to watch. They have five minutes to look at the music and talk about it without playing. Then they play through it once for the judges and it is amazing how great they sound. They did a wonderful job and earned straight "ones" which is the highest rating. Great job PCMS!
