Mother - Son Skating Party

On Saturday, William and I got to go to the Mother-Son Skating Party sponsored by his school. It is the boy version of the Daddy-Daughter Dance... just without the sparkly dresses, corsages, and fancy hair. Before skating, we went to a local drive-in with some friends to have a quick lunch. We had so much fun skating. William brought his own roller blades and was the first kid out on the floor. They had contests, games, and fun music. At the end of the event, they handed out awards. William won the trophy for "Best All Around Skater." We were skating with Pre-K through Second graders and he was definitely the best skater out there. He was so proud of his award. His good friend Marius won the award for "Best Attitude." It was his first time skating and had a smile on his face the entire time despite all the falls! The boys were very excited to compare their trophies. William is already looking forward to next year!

Spring is in the Air

Last Tuesday, William had his first official hockey class. The first 30 minutes was skating instruction geared towards hockey. The second half included stick handling and drills. William loved it! He had a big smile on his face the entire time. The weather warmed up this week so the boys spent a lot of time outside. The driveway was finally clear which meant the neighborhood kids set up the hockey nets in our driveway for roller hockey. We also did a lot of bike and scooter riding this week. On Friday night, we went to Family Movie Night at school. They were showing "Big Hero 6." The kids brought sleeping bags and we had pizza while watching the movie. The boys actually seemed to enjoy the movie - even though William fought us about going. On Saturday, we went to the nature center to participate in their 50th Annual Maple Sugar Festival. We took a sugar tour and did some of their other maple syrup related activities.

Disney Characters

Just a few more of the character photos... the boys were beaming (when awake)!

Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin

One of our favorite rides was the Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin. Both boys like the Toy Story movies so they are very familiar with Buzz. You are basically in the middle of a giant arcade game where you shoot laser guns at "Z" targets and try to destroy Zurg (Buzz's enemy). As you can see from these photos, someone in the family takes the game very seriously.  But, he did not end up with the high score for the family.

Disney - Day Four

On Sunday, we woke up to beautiful weather and a happy Alex! We went to the Magic Kingdom for a few hours in the morning. We got there before the crowds and were able to do the Buzz Lightyear ride three times, the tea cups, and the race cars. Then we took a bus over to the Animal Kingdom. We had a fast pass for the safari ride which was amazing. The ride itself was fun and we got to see a lot of animals close up. After the ride, we did a few of the nature walks and then grabbed lunch. Then we walked around for a while and played at the dinosaur playground before using our other fast pass for a private meet and greet with.... Mickey and Minnie! The boys were so excited. It was definitely Alex's favorite part of the trip. When our time was up, he walked slowly away waving to them over his shoulder. It was very sweet. After the meet and greet, we rode back to the hotel to swim one more time. Then we went back to the Magic Kindgom for our final evening. By the time we got there, the crowds had thinned out a bit and we were able to get on a bunch of rides: teacups (again), race cars (again), Buzz Lightyear (twice, again), It's a Small World, the People Mover, the Winnie the Pooh ride, and the carousel. The boys had the option of either riding the monorail one last time or staying for the fireworks and they chose the monorail. So we took the monorail for a quick ride and then caught the water taxi to the hotel. While on the water, we saw the fireworks from the back of the boat. It was a perfect day!
