Produce!

We officially pulled up the last plants from our garden last week. We had a very productive vegetable season - for the plants that weren't eaten by deer anyway! We had a week of heavy rain right before school started and that killed off some of our plants that otherwise would have produced into fall. But, we are still very pleased with our results:

Cucumbers - 26
Zucchini - 38
Banana Peppers - 28
Serrano Peppers - 77 (probably more but we lost count along the way!)
Roma Tomatoes - 62
Beef Steak Tomatoes - 71

We were not able to grow green beans this year - the deer kept eating them once they were 5" tall. We tried sprays and repellents but nothing worked! We had the same problem with our snap peas. They grew up the trellis but then were eaten. The watermelon was also a failure. We had several growing on the vine. Our largest was softball sized. We think a chipmunk, rabbit, or squirrel got to that.

We have 12 loaves of zucchini bread in the freezer, frozen diced peppers, pickled banana peppers, 10 pints of tomato sauce, and 8 pints of stewed tomatoes. Plus frozen berries and apple sauce.
