Adray Districts in Ludington (AGAIN)

Will's team had the ADRAY Districts in Ludington this past weekend. They started on Friday night playing the Bronco Black team. Both teams played hard and the game ended in a 3-3 tie. On Saturday morning, they played the West Shore team and unfortunately, suffered their first loss of the season. The final score was 2-1. On Saturday morning, Alex woke up with a temperature of 102+ (we were not surprised - he had 10 classmates out with illness early in the week). We had stayed home so he would be able to go to all of his hockey practices. But that wasn't in the cards for him. In the afternoon, they had a "win or go home" game against Big Rapids. They managed to get a good 4-0 win. That victory, combined with a Bronco Black loss to West Shore, moved them into the semi-finals on Sunday morning. Unfortunately, one of their teammates woke up with a temperature of 104 and another woke up with a temperature of 101. The boys played really hard, but ended up losing the game 2-1 in overtime against the Grand Valley Black team (undefeated on the season). On Monday, I got a call from school that Will threw up multiple times after lunch. So he came home. Alex was still running a fever as well. As it turns out, about half of their hockey team was down with illness on Monday/Tuesday. Will wasn't running a temperature and we were hoping they could both go back to school on Wednesday. But then Will woke up with a 100 degree fever. So Alex went back to school but Will had to stay home. The doctor thinks Will had a stomach bug and while his immune system was down he picked up Alex's germs. Hopefully we can get rid of the germs once and for all!

Happy Valentine's Day

I was able to help at Alex's Valentine's Day party at school. It was pretty low key: a sundae bar, Bingo, opening Valentines, and a scavenger hunt. Alex's foam airplane Valentines were a hit and his team won the scavenger hunt. Alex was so excited to get to make the lighthouse valentine box.  You may remember this from Will's 2nd grade, 3rd grade, and 4th grade boxes.  Yes.  We've now made a similar box 4 years in a row.  This one will be put on a shelf and saved for next year!!!  Will had a party at school as well but they didn't need volunteers. They each decorated a movie theater sized box of candy to exchange and had a pizza party. We had a family Valentine's Day dinner on the 13th since Phil and Will were heading up to Ludington for hockey after school on Friday.

Battle of the Books

Will and some of his friends teamed up to compete in the Battle of the Books again this year. They read six different novels over the course of 2.5 months and then competed in a trivia style competition. There were 17 teams of 4th and 5th graders participating. Although they didn't finish in the top two (which advance to a grand battle against other schools) they had a lot of fun! Their coaches were two of the interns at Moorsbridge and they did a great job with the kids.

Outdoor Hockey

Will's buddy Drake, who is also on his hockey team (and who's dad is one of their assistant hockey coaches), has an outdoor hockey rink in their backyard. The weather this winter has not really cooperated for the rink (periods of warm weather followed by snow) but Will was finally able to go over there to play hockey.  They have quite the set-up:  banners, lights for night skating, a firepit warming area, etc.   They are truly a hockey family!

MAHA District 6 Champs!

Wow! It was another exciting hockey weekend. We were back in Ludington for the MAHA District 6 Championships. The boys had their first game on Friday night against GRAHA White. We won 6-0 and Will had two goals. On Saturday morning, we played the team from Big Rapids (again) and beat them 4-0. In the afternoon, we faced one of the other Broncos teams (Bronco White). Bronco White came out full of energy but we were still able to win 6-1. Our undefeated record advanced us to the semi-final game on Sunday morning against Bronco Black. We played Bronco Black in the final of our tournament in Lansing and beat them so they were out to get us. It was a tough game, but we won 4-2. The Bronco Gold team also advanced out of the semi-final so we played them in the Championship game in the afternoon. We typically practice with Bronco gold, and are good friends with some of the families. Both teams had been cheering each other on all weekend. We won the championship game 4-1 and will advance to the State Championship in March. It was the first time in KOHA history there was an "all Bronco" district final. We are so proud of this crew! It is a great hockey family.
