First Day of School

Today was the first day of school for the three of us.  Will started 6th Grade (he's a middle schooler!) virtually from home.  He was successfully able to log-in to all his google classes and met all his teachers:  Science, Math Plus, Art, Social Studies, XTS (like study hall/advisory), ELA Plus, Gym and Band (alternating days).  Alex started 3rd grade face to face at Moorsbridge.  He is so excited to have Mr. Heerlyn as his teacher.  He had a great morning and said he even forgot he had his mask on.  I also started my 6th year at Moorsbridge.  Things are definitely going to be different this year but we are ready!

Visit with Grandma

We had a nice visit with Grandma today.  She came down mid-morning and the boys taught her how to play carpet ball.  We ordered in lunch from Fletcher's (the boys' choice) and played more carpet ball in the afternoon.  Then we let the guinea pigs play on the porch before she drove back to GR.

Middle School Ready

Will is ready for virtual Middle School!  We went to his band fitting a few weeks ago and passed the music test so he is able to go right into percussion.  We now have a xylophone and drum kit in his room.  We also picked up his chrome book and middle school planner.  We don't have his official school supply list yet (will get that the first day of school) but we did go shopping for some basics.  Then, instead of going out to dinner like usual, we ordered carry-out and watched the first Hunger Games movie (he recently finished the books).  He has had a few virtual orientation videos and some google meet Q&A sessions.

Carpet Ball

Our final project of the summer was building a carpet ball table for the backyard.  The boys love playing at Bair Lake.  We picked up the materials on Saturday and were able to build it Sunday afternoon.

Summer Fun

We celebrated the end of summer by renting a 30' inflatable water slide with some neighbors.  The kids played on it from sun-up to sun-down two days in a row.

Sunflower Days

We took a drive to Gull Meadow Farms today to check out their 2nd Annual Sunflower Days.  They had a lot of the fun family activities open:  zip line, obstacle course, jump pillow, petting zoo, and tub slides.  We were able to wander through their 5 acre field full of 25 different varieties of sunflowers.  We were each able to cut one sunflower from the field as part of our admission fee.  We spent about 3 hours at the farm - it felt like we had the place to ourselves.

Cottage - Day 4

On Sunday, we tried the beach again and had a beautiful day.  The beach was empty when we arrived and didn't start to fill up (but still plenty of space) until after lunch.  The boys played in the river, floated on logs, and collected rocks.  After the beach, we went back to the cottage to pack up and then went to Hofbrau for dinner since Bud's was already closed.
