Will had hockey camp this week up at Wings West. I think 9 or 10 of his teammates for next year were at camp and it was run by Pat Ferschweiler (our former neighbor, former Red Wings assistant coach, and now WMU head coach). Will was checked into the boards and had a penalty shot which he scored on. His team won which was fun for him.
Alex's baseball team went to a Growlers' game tonight. They were even able to go on the field before the game to play catch. Will was able to go on the field as well and he found one of his buddies there so he had some one to hang out with. They both came home with a lot of autographs!
On Sunday, we split up again. Will really wanted to play mini golf and wasn't sure if he was up for a day at the beach. So Phil and Will went to Pirates Cove and Alex and I headed to the Platte River. Alex had a great time swimming and floating in the river. He found a giant log all the way down the beach and we fought the current for 30 minutes to get it back to our area. We used it as part of the defenses for our sand castle. We spent about 4 hours at the beach before heading to Grand Rapids to pick up Winger. It was another great weekend at the cottage!
We woke up to rain on Saturday morning so we had a quiet morning at the cottage enjoying the porch and playing games. Then we stopped at the used book store in Interlochen before heading to Traverse for lunch at J & S Hamburgs. We popped into a few stores and by early afternoon the rain had stopped. We drove up to Suttons Bay to go to the candy store, toy shop, and science store and then stopped at the property before going back to the cottage. We had another fire and just relaxed!
On Friday morning, Phil and Alex went to Pirates Cove to play mini golf. Phil ended up with 3 holes in one and Alex got 2. Then they had lunch at Bay Breads and played some disc golf. Will was feeling much better and decided he wanted to join them at the cottage. So we dropped Winger off at Grandma's house and met them at the cottage. We had dinner at Bud's and then went for a relaxing boat ride. The boys did some fishing but didn't catch anything. But it was a beautiful night to be out on the water.
On Thursday afternoon, Phil and Alex drove up to the cottage. Unfortunately, Will was under the weather and we decided to stay home for the night. After unpacking, they went down to the lake and enjoyed hotdogs by the fire.
Alex had a fun week at fishing camp. He had a successful final day at Kevin Van Dam's pond: he caught 8 fish including a nice sized sunfish.
