MAHA 8U State Tournament Runners-Up

A few weeks ago, Will tried out for the KOHA 8U tournament team. KOHA actually created three teams (one for each division) and Will made the second team.  The teams practiced at Lawson Ice Arena at WMU on Monday and were treated to a behind the scenes tour of the Bronco's facilities.

Saturday was the first day of the tournament. Grann came over and Grandma and Grandpa came down to watch the games. His team played really well in the first two games winning 6-0 and 7-1. Then they had a break when we celebrated one of their teammate's birthday with pizza and cupcakes. Their biggest competition came in the third game which would determine who moved on to the semi finals. They won that game 5-2.

On Sunday morning, they played a really tough team in the semifinals. They were down going into the third period. Will scored his teams first goal and then scored one to tie it up 3-3. They ended up scoring once more with 1:45 left to advance to the quarter finals. They won their quarter final game 3-2 to advance to the finals. All three 8U KOHA teams made it to the finals in their division. Will's team played a Belle Tire travel team that was really good. They lead 2-1 but Belle Tire tied it up with 4 seconds left to send it to overtime. The teams were still tied after overtime and it went to a shootout. Belle Tire pulled out the win but the KOHA team was really happy with their runner-up medals. It was such a fun (and exhausting) hockey weekend. Our arms/hands are sore from clapping and our throats are horse.

Alex practiced at Lawson yesterday but skipped his practice today to cheer on the KOHA teams in the finals. He was rewarded for his sacrifice with a new hockey sweatshirt from Grann.
