Trike-a-thon and Hockey with Grandma and Grandpa

On Thursday, Grandma and Grandpa came down to watch the boys while Phil and I went to Chicago for a wedding. They got to walk William to the bus stop and take Alex to preschool on Friday. On Saturday morning, they took William to hockey practice. In the afternoon, they went up to CHUM for Alex's trike-a-thon and carnival. Alex was the fastest kid there and lapped everyone a couple times. They got to play some games, had cotton candy and popcorn, and climbed on a fire truck. There were also bounce houses and pumpkin painting.

Maguran Family Farm

Well, we had our first frost of the season over the weekend.  So we had to pull up our last two crops (zucchini and jalapeños).  We had another great yield:

Strawberries - 5 lbs
Green Beans - 9.625 lbs
Green Onions - 47 bunches
Zucchini - 33
Jalapeños - 87
Tomatoes - 154
Cucumbers - 14 (something happened to the plant - one day it was fine, the next day dead)

We were able to eat a lot of the produce as we picked it.  But we did get behind on a few things so we had to process/freeze some of it:

10 pints tomato sauce
5 pints salsa
4 cups diced green onions
4 cups diced jalapeños
4 cups cut green beans

Hockey and Fall Fun

This weekend, Grann came up for a visit. On Saturday morning, we took William to his first KOHA hockey practice. He has 4 practice/evaluation sessions and then will be placed on a team. And so it begins... After hockey, we hunted for a geocache in Al Sabo and then went to the apple orchard to go apple picking and have cider and donuts. Unfortunately, William came down with something and has been under the weather (and missing school) since. On Sunday, one of our neighbors stopped by with an old pair of roller blades for Alex. He was so excited to give them a try.

Harvest Moon Acres

This morning, Alex had a field trip to Harvest Moon Acres. We started the day with a hay ride and then moved into the barn to enjoy cider and donut holes while we learned about the farm. Then the kids got to meet some animals in the petting zoo and play in the corn box (a big hit). Then they were able to play "Barnyard Candy Land" and slide down the giant slide. Before we left, we all got to chose a small pumpkin. It was such a fun morning!

Teddy Bear Picnic

William had his Teddy Bear Picnic at school on Tuesday afternoon. The kids were able to make their own jelly sandwiches and then went on a "Bear Hunt" and sang a few other teddy bear songs.

Road Rally

Last Friday, William had his Road Rally at school to raise money for field trips, classroom needs, the accelerated reader program, etc. He did a great job running and Alex even joined in for 6-7 laps.

Alex's First Field Trip

Alex had his first field trip on Wednesday. His class went bowling at Airway Lanes. As you can imagine, Alex was very excited. He even wore his lucky bowling t-shirt (and got lots of compliments). He was on a lane with his friend Austin. The kids bowled for about an hour and then had their snacks. It was a lot of fun. We have another field trip coming up next week to an apple orchard.
