Carnegie Mellon Campus Tour

On Thursday morning, Will and I left for DC to do some college tours.  Our first stop was Carnegie Mellon.  The info session and tour were not very impressive and Will really didn’t like the campus.  There was also a major thunderstorm that came through which delayed the start of our tour.  He will not be applying to CMU.

8th Grade Trip to DC/Gettysburg - Day 1

The buses drove through the night stopping at a few rest areas.  At one of the stops, they ran into the 8th graders group from West Middle School.  Their first stop was Gettysburg for breakfast and a battlefield tour.  Then they had lunch in Gettysburg before heading to DC.  They went to the Museum of Natural History and also the Museum of American History before having dinner and heading to the hotel.

FAASTS Homerun Derby Runners-Up

Yes. That makes five tournaments in a row that the Muskies finished as runners-up. The played two games on Saturday in the Ann Arbor area and went 1-1. Then they played three games on Sunday before losing in the Championship.

USMNT vs Germany

For Will's birthday, we gave him tickets to the USMNT vs Germany game at Soldier Field (the last warm-up game before the World Cup).  They drove to Michigan City and took the train right to Soldier Field.  Unfortunately, the US lost but they did get to see an amazing US goal.

Deer - 1, Phil’s Car - 0

Phil and Alex got up early to drive to Milan for the first game Sunday morning. They were about 40 miles away in Marshall, MI when a deer ran in front of them and smashed the front of Phil's car. Phil and Alex were both fine, but unfortunately, the car was not. One of Alex's coaches was on the road still and was able to stop to pick him up and got him to the game on time. Phil called the police and insurance while I packed up and drove to get him. We waited until we knew the Muskies won their first game before driving to Milan to meet up with them. Phil's car was just shy of 200,000 miles and will probably be "totaled" by the insurance company.  So now he has to start looking for a new car.

8th Grade Graduation

Alex had his 8th Grade Promotion Ceremony tonight. He "graduated" with high honors with distinction for his GPA (3.8-4.0) and all the 8th graders had their names read and walked across the stage. They have their trip to Michigan's Adventure tomorrow and then a 1/2 day on Friday.
